When I went outside yesterday evening to feed the horse I was initially distracted by the large cockroach on the wall. Ew! I HATE those things!! So, I get the horse his treat and grain, staying as far away as possible. As I'm standing there trying to pet Justy's head I catch sight of something out of the corner of my eye. A snake is in the rafters a couple feet over my head! I could almost reach out and touch him! Yeah! He made it to the horse barn where he is needed desperately! Happy hunting little buddy!!

Double Take
Yesterday morning when we came home from an appointment DD2 noticed this rather large snake on the ground next to the carport! He was about 4 feet long. Wow!! Very cool! We took some pictures and went inside to do research to try to figure out what kind of snake it was. I think it was a black rat snake. And considering the large number of rodents living in our horse barn - that is a very good type for us to have! Plus they aren't venomous, even though DH assures me they will still bite.
More Cards
I'm on a roll! I made a few more cards. This time I used some techniques I haven't tried before. I used flower soft on a couple cards. This product is used almost like glitter - except it is made of tiny little flowers rather than sparkles. I think the effect is pretty nice. I also used my new cuttlebug for some embossing. I think it's time to get back to work on layouts as I am SO far behind and my pile of cards is getting very high!

Christmas in June
I had a lot of fun making cards this weekend. I had all my Christmas supplies out so that I could scrap pictures from Christmas 2008. So when I was done with those layouts, I decided to use some of the remaining supplies to get a head start on Christmas Cards. These are a few of the weekends' kreations.

New Toy!
I already have a wishblade, which is awesome, but I kept seeing my scrapping friends create with embossing folders. Their results were SO COOL! I found a 50% off coupon for Michaels and I couldn't resist. I spent the majority of my Christmas money on a new Cuttlebug!! I hope I can create some cool things like I've seen others do!

New Anniversary Card
Adding a picture of an anniversary card I recently made. I have been sending anniversary cards to couples in our church this year. It's been a great way for me to have an outlet for my card making! For this card, the background patterned paper was left over from a layout I did. The flower I hand cut out of an embossed paper and then added chalks to highlight contours. I think it turned out pretty well - I don't usually work with handcutting, embossed patterns, or chalking so it was fun to experiment with something new.

Kane's Slow Recovery
So Sunday we took Kane to the doggy ER. Monday we took him to our regular vet for a follow-up. He just really wasn't seeming to perk up. The vet offered him some food, and even though he hadn't eaten since Saturday evening, he wouldn't take any. The vet ran lots of blood work and did a thorough exam. Once the results were in, the diagnosis was pancreatitis. I am still convinced he was bloating Saturday evening. But no one seems to know the connection about which condition started his problems.
Anyway, he stayed at the vet's overnight Monday night for IV fluids and observation. No food to let his intestines rest. We came to check on him at lunch time to day to find that his IV was dislodged and the intravenous fluids were now subcutaneous - his entire leg was swelled from the fluids. From talking to the vet, apparently he had already pulled the IV out of the other leg earlier, so he's not being a good patient! The vet offered him a bite of canned food & he ate it!! So, since they were having trouble keeping him on an IV and he showed a little improvement by eating a bite, the vet guardedly allowed me to take him home with orders to bring him back if there was any vomiting.
So far, so good! I think he's happy to be home, and we're happy to have him here with us. Hopefully we will be able to nurse him back to health, and avoid any future relapses.

Kane the Dane
We have a Great Dane named Kane. He's our second Dane. We lost our first one after recurring bloat complications. This weekend Kane started experiencing bloat symptoms. When he survived the night, we thought he might make it thru, but he just didn't stop vomiting foam. So, we took him to the emergency vet's. Because he survived so long (24 hrs) after onset, it appears he may have the bloat buildup of gases in his tummy, without the twisted intestines. The vet started him on an IV and gave him an anti-vomiting injection. Shortly thereafter he started acting real fidgety and lost ability to stand. Appears it is some strange reaction to the injection, so now we are waiting it out. Seems like he's in worse shape than when we got to the vets....It's gonna be a long night. Especially for Kane.

Why is it?
Why is it that I struggle to find bargains on used items I need (like kids' school books), but when I need to clean out my closets I can't find anyone to take my stuff at any price??
We have pulled 7 bins of girls' clothes, sizes 0-5T, out of the attic. There is everything: school uniforms, Easter & Christmas dresses, play clothes, some "hot" brand names, as well as books, professional women's suits, a china cabinet, craft supplies, etc. Our attempts at re-homing these items have been a BUST! What's the secret?!
